Geneva Lecture Series: Inaugural Lecture

The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) are organizing open conferences on a regular basis entitled “The Geneva Lecture Series”, starting in April 2008, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The lectures aim to foster awareness of a number of pressing global challenges among audiences in Geneva and beyond, with a focus on how each individual can contribute to resolving such challenges. All lectures will feature internationally recognized leaders from the world of politics, business or civil society.

The inaugural lecture, delivered by the United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon on the topic, “Are the development goals doomed to fail?”, took place on 29 April 2008 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Palais des Nations in the Assembly Hall.

Following the lecture, the public was invited to a debate moderated by a TSR journalist and news anchor Darius Rochebin.
