About the event
In December 2017, Resolution A/RES/72/239 adopted by the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2019-2028 the United Nations Decade of Family Farming (UNDFF).
The UN Resolution calls upon the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to lead the implementation of the Decade in collaboration with other relevant organizations of the United Nations system and invites governments and other relevant stakeholders, including international and regional organizations, civil society, the private sector and academia, to actively support the implementation of the UNDFF.
The Global launch of UNDFF took place in Rome in May 2019 and a second official launch in New York at the UN Headquarters on the sidelines of the High- Level Political Forum.
The Geneva Launch of the UN Decade of Family Farming occurs in October, the month when FAO commemorates the World Food Day (16 October). The photo exhibition commemorates the UN Decade of Family Farming and Healthy Diets for a #ZeroHunger World – 2019’s theme of the World Food Day.
This event is co-organized by the the FAO Liaison Office with the United Nations Office at Geneva and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), with the Permanent Representations of Costa Rica and Switzerland to UNOG, La Via Campesina, the Swiss Farmers’ Union.
