About the event:

This photo exhibition, entitled “What Does Peace Look Like”, is organized by the UNESCO Geneva Liaison Office, with the support of the Permanent Mission of Austria to the United Nations in Geneva and the publisher Edition Lammerhuber. The exhibition, now in its third year at UNOG, features a number of photos from the Alfred Fried Photography Award 2016, which saw 16,883 entries from 127 nations. In September 2016, the Austrian parliament hosted the award ceremony for that year’s prize, which went to the German photographer Helena Schätzle for Devoted to Life, a portrait series of holocaust survivors in Israel.

The exhibition’s pictures reflect a myriad of perspectives and approaches to peace, showing that it is an intensely personal concept, of which each human being has his/her own interpretation and understanding.

About the Award:

The pictures were selected from the fourth edition of the Alfred Fried Photography Award in 2016. The Award is named after Austrian Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Alfred Fried, and was initially founded by the published and photographer, Lois Lammerhuber.

Entries to the 2016 Award were considered by an international jury that included photographers, photo journalists, newspaper editors, representatives of photographic associations and of UNESCO. To learn more about Alfred Fried Photography Award, please see: https://www.friedaward.com/
