UPDATES FOR CORRESPONDENTS

This is to confirm that there will be a meeting on Friday 14 February 2014 at the United Nations in Geneva between Joint Special Representative Mr. Lakhdar Brahimi, Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Gennady Gatilov and United States Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman.
At 3.15 p.m.
The second round of the intra-Syrian Talks (Geneva II) started this morning at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. Joint Special Representative Lakhdar Brahimi met with the delegation of the Syrian opposition headed by its Chief Negotiator, Mr. Hedi Albahra, and subsequently with the Syrian Government delegation headed by its Chief Negotiator, Amb. Bashar Ja'fari.
The discussions centered on the agenda of the second round of the Talks, chiefly questions relating to the cessation of violence and terrorism and the establishment of a transitional governing body in accordance with the Geneva Communiqué of 30 June 2012.
No press conference by the Joint Special Representative is scheduled today.
At 10.30 a.m
The Joint Special Representative Lakhdar Brahimi has begun meeting with the delegation of the opposition this morning. He will subsequently meet with the delegation of the government.
at 7.30 p.m.
As indicated during his press conference
this afternoon, the Joint Special Representative for Syria, Mr. Lakhdar Brahimi, will hold talks with the two Syrian delegations tomorrow Sunday 26 January.
There will be no photo opportunity in the morning and the United Nations Information Service will not respond to queries or requests for technical support before 2 p.m.
The Joint Special Representative is expected to give a press conference late in the afternoon (to be confirmed).

). In particular, we will inform about the possible press conference well in advance.
Room V will remain open throughout the weekend as workspace and overflow for any press conference.
Journalists in possession of a Montreux badge and not holding access magnetic cards will be able to enter the building through door 11 and 23. Access to the Palais will be authorized through the Pregny Gate by foot only.
The press bar on the ground floor will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There will be a press conference by representatives of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, Mr. Monzer Akbik and Mr. Louay Safi, immediately after the press conference by the Joint Special Representative for Syria, in Room III.
Interpretation will be provided in English, French and Arabic.

The meeting between the two delegations and the Joint Special Representative for Syria has resumed.
The Joint Special Representative will address the press in room III at around 6 p.m. The press conference will be available on webcast at webtv.un.org.
Room III is now open. Allow significant time for security checks. Room V remains open for overflow.
at 1 p.m.
The meeting between the two delegations and the Joint Special Representative has adjourned and will resume this afternoon at 4 pm as had been agreed with the two delegations yesterday.
The Joint Special Representative will give a press conference
in Room III at 1800 (exact time to be confirmed).
