Following are the remarks made today by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the launch of the Economic and Social Council Innovation Fair 2013:
“Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Bonjour, Mesdames et Messieurs,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Thank you very much for your participation.
Earlier this morning, I launched my latest report on the Millennium Development Goals. Then I helped launch the 2013 Global Innovation Index.
This is my third launch of the day and it’s not even noon!
But I am very proud to join all of you in launching the 2013 Innovation Fair of the Economic and Social Council.
This ECOSOC is about innovation and that is what we have all around us.
The ECOSOC Innovation Fair highlights important contributions for solving some of the most pressing development challenges.
This year, it showcases innovative work of governments, NGOs, the private sector and international organizations in the fields of science, technology, innovation and culture.
Our world is moving to a more open and collaborative model of innovation thanks in large part to new technologies.
Science, technology, innovation and culture have been pivotal in the achievements towards the MDGs.
They hold enormous potential as tools and enablers to promote sustainable development.
We rely on innovators like you to unleash that potential.
Thank you for taking part and sharing your ideas and creativity with the world.
We need your help. Together, let us realize the future we want.
Thank you for your participation.”
