Annual Tripartite Meeting
The 2009 annual high-level Tripartite meeting between the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the Council of Europe, with the participation of partner organizations, was held on Wednesday, 3 June 2009, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
Under the title “Preventing conflicts through the strengthening of democratic institutions: enhancing democratic governance and institutions to reconcile interests and promote non-violent resolution of conflict”, this year’s meeting explored the nexus between conflict prevention and democratic governance.
The aim was to formulate concrete recommendations to enhance collaborative efforts among the participating organizations to advance conflict prevention and democratization. The meeting provided an opportunity to further reinforce collaboration between the United Nations and its regional partners in these critical areas. For the meeting agenda, please click here.
The meeting was hosted by the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Mr. Sergei A. Ordzhonikidze, who held the rotating chairmanship of the Tripartite process. Attendance at the annual high-level meeting was by invitation.
