The Director-General opened the joint UNOG-WAAS (World Academy of Art and Science) Conference on “Opportunities and Challenges for the 21st Century – Need for a New Paradigm”, and participated in the various sessions which took place throughout the day.

The Director-General, in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament and Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference, participated in a plenary meeting of the Conference.
The Director-General met with Mr. Lakhdar Brahimi, Joint Special Representative of the United Nations and the League of Arab States on the Syrian Crisis, Mr. Jeffrey Feltman, Under Secretary-General for Politicial Affairs, Mr. Nasser Al-Kidwa, Deputy Joint Special Representative of the United Nations and the League of Arab States on the Syrian crisis and Mr. Ghassan Salame, Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs. They discussed the current situation in Syria.
The Director-General opened the exhibition “Several Players, One Goal” organized by the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.
The Director-General attended a reception hosted by Mr. Amedeo Trambajolo, Minister Counselor, Deputy Permanent Representative, Chargé d’affaires a.i., of Italy to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, on the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Italy.

The Director-General met with Mr. Kishore Singh, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education.
The Director-General attended a luncheon with Mr. Lakhdar Brahimi, Joint Special Representative of the United Nations and the League of Arab States on the Syrian Crisis.

The Director-General meets Mr. Danilo Türk, former President of the Republic of Slovenia. He thanked Mr. Türk for Slovenia’s contributions to the United Nations and its engagement in disarmament, humanitarian and development matters.
The new Permanent Representative of Uganda, Mr. Christopher Onyanga Aparr, presented his credentials to the Director-General, who welcomed him as his country’s new representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
The Director-General marked Russian Language Day and opened an exhibition on Russian language and culture organized by the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation.
The Director-General attended a reception on the occasion of the Independence Day of Georgia hosted by Mr. Shalva Tsiskarashvili, Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.
