Selected Highlights of the Director-General's activities

The Director-General met Mr. Heinz Fischer, Federal President of the Republic of Austria. The Director-General expressed his appreciation for Austria’s contributions across the United Nations agenda.

The Director-General met Mr. Christian Dussey, Director-designate of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP). They discussed continued collaboration between the United Nations and GCSP, particularly in the areas of disarmament and peacebuilding.

The Director-General, in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament and Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference, participated in presidential consultations of the Conference.

The Director-General hosted a luncheon in honour of Mr. Heinz Fischer, Federal President of the Republic of Austria and the First Lady, Mrs. Margit Fischer.

The Director-General participated by videoconference in a meeting of the Senior Management Group, chaired by the United Nations Secretary-General.

The Director-General attended a dinner in honour of Mr. Fred Tanner, outgoing Director of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP).

The Director-General, in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament and Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference, participated in a plenary meeting of the Conference.

The Director-General attended a reception hosted by H.E. Ms. Marie-Thérèse Pictet-Althann, Permanent Observer of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, to commemorate the 900th anniversary of the sovereignty of the Order of Malta.

The Director-General attended a dinner in honor of H.E. Mr. Paul van den Ijssel, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Conference on Disarmament, hosted by H.E. Mr. Haitao Wu, Permanent Repesentative of China to the Conference on Disarmament.

The Director-General participated via video-conference in a meeting of the Senior Advisers on Management chaired by the United Nations Secretary-General.

The Director-General opened the exhibition "Roerich Pact. History and Modernity - Dedicated to the International Treaty on the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historic Monuments".

The Director-General attended a reception on the occasion of the National Day of the Philippines hosted by H.E. Mr. Denis Y. Lepatan, Ambassador Deputy Permanent Representative, Chargé d'affaires a.i., of the Philippines to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva and by H.E. Mr. Esteban B. Conejos, Jr. Ambassador Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the World Trade Organization.

The Director-General participated in the opening of the "International Counter-Terrorism Focal Points Conference on Addressing Conditions Conducive to the Spread of Terrorism and Promoting Regional Cooperation".

The Director-General attended a special high-level ministerial luncheon on the occasion of the “International Counter-Terrorism Focal Points Conference on Addressing Conditions Conducive to the Spread of Terrorism and Promoting Regional Cooperation".

The Director-General opened a concert by the young pianist Melodie Zhao, organized by the Permanent Mission of Poland.

The Director-General attended a farewell reception hosted by H.E. Mrs. Sujata Mehta, Permanent Representative of India to the Conference on Disarmament.

The Director-General attended a reception on the occasion of the National Day of the Russian Federation hosted by H.E. Mr. Alexey Borodavkin, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva and Mr. Yuri Gloukhov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Geneva.

The Director-General participated in the closing ceremony for the “Luminarium”, an inflatable exhibition erected on the grounds of the Palais des Nations in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Director-General attended a reception on the occasion of the 102nd Special Session of the Council of the International Organization for Migration hosted by H.E. Mrs. Betty E. King, Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.
