In the context of his regular meetings with Member States, the Director-General met with the Eastern European Group and briefed them on the Secretary-General's 2013 priorities with a particular focus on the perspective from Geneva

The Director-General, in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament and Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference, participated in presidential consultations of the Conference.

The new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Peru, Mr. Luis Enrique Chávez Basagoitia, presented his credentials to the Director-General, who welcomed him as his country’s new representative to the United Nations in Geneva.

The Director-General met with Mr. Uglješa Zvekiæ, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Serbia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.

The Director-General, in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament and Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference, participated in a plenary meeting of the Conference.

The Director-General opened the exhibition “History as News: 1898 – 2012” organized by the United Nations Press Association in Geneva (ACANU). He acknowledged the importance to protect and promote the essential work of journalists, as it is necessary for building stronger, healthier and more peaceful societies.
