The Director-General met with Mr. Anders B. Johnsson, Secretary-General, Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to discuss the forthcoming 125th IPU Assembly, which will take place from 16-19 October 2011.

The Director-General met with Mrs. Khadija Rachida Masri, Permanent Observer of the African Union.

The Director-General attended a reception to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the adoption of General Assembly Resolution 2758 (XXVI) on the representation of the People's Republic of China at the United Nations.

Mr. Yusuf Abdulkarim Mohammed Bucheeri, the new Permanent Representative from the Kingdom of Bahrain presented his credentials to the Director-General who welcomed him as his country’s new representative to the United Nations in Geneva.

The Director-General received credentials by Mrs. Elissa Golberg, the new Permanent Representative of Canada, and wished her success as her country’s new representative to the United Nations in Geneva.

The Director-General met with Ján Kubiš, Executive Secretary, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) to discuss regional developments and collaboration between the ECE and the United Nations.

The Director-General chaired a panel discussion on the “Roadmap for Peacebuilding: The United Nations and Our Collective Path to Peace”, organized by the UNOG Library.

The Director-General met with Goodwill Ambassador Anatoly Karpov, ex-champion of the world in chess.

New Permanent Representative of Japan to Conference on Disarmament Presents Letter of Nomination to Director-General

The Director-General met with Mr. Idriss Jazaïry, Permanent Representative of Algeria to discuss issues of common concern.

The Director-General met with Mr. Peter Gooderham, Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to discuss the promotion of meaningful implementation of the Olympic Truce, in light of the forthcoming 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The Director-General met with Mr. Aldlimi Saadon, Minister of Culture for Iraq to discuss continued collaboration between the United Nations and Iraq, as well as the promotion of cross-cultural dialogue to further enhance global understanding and foster peace.

The Director-General participated in the ceremony for the unveiling of the sculpture “La Macchina del Vento” by Italian artist Eugenio Bolley.

The Director-General opened the “Introductory Session for New Delegates”, which provided relevant information from all UNOG Divisions and Services to delegates new to Geneva.

The Director-General participated in a working luncheon hosted by the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) in his honour.

The Director-General met with Mr. Reinhard Schweppe, Permanent Representative of Germany.

The Director-General met with Mr. He Yafei, Permanent Representative of China to discuss collaboration between the United Nations and China and issues of common concern.
