Ms. Tamara Kunanayakam of Sri Lanka presented her credentials to the Director-General who stressed the importance of this country for the United Nations system.

Ms. Soline Nyirahabimana of Rwanda presented her credentials to the Director-General who underscored the progress of this country in its economic development and sustaining internal stability.

The Director-General visited the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) and met with its Director, Ambassador Fred Tanner and senior members of staff.

The Director-General met with Mr. Dennis Francis, Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to discuss the contributions of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations as well as continued cooperation.

The Director-General met with Ms. Lauren Landis, the newly-appointed Director of the Geneva Liaison Office of the World Food Programme (WFP).

The Director-General attended the plenary session of the Conference on Disarmament.

The Director-General met with Mr. Sergey Batsanov, Director of the Geneva Office of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs to discuss disarmament issues and the role of the Pugwash Conferences in bringing scientific insight and reason to bear on threats to human security.
