The Director-General met with Mr. Lazarous Kapambwe, President of the Economic and Social Council, and Permanent Representative of Zambia to the United Nations in New York to discuss the ongoing substantive session of the Economic and Social Council, including upcoming segments and the adoption of recent resolutions.
The Director-General welcomed the Secretary-General upon his arrival in Geneva, for his visit which will take place from 18-19 July 2011.
The Director-General met with Mr. Jânis Maþeiks, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Latvia before his forthcoming departure from Geneva and new appointment to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Director-General accompanied Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon on his visit to Geneva, which included a meeting with Mr. Pascal Lamy, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Secretary-General’s address at the Third Global Review of Aid for Trade at the WTO and a meeting with Mrs. Micheline Calmy-Rey, President of the Swiss Confederation.
The Director-General met with Mr. Aharon Leshno-Yaar, Permanent Representative of Israel. Among issues discussed were the contributions of Israel to the activities of the United Nations Office at Geneva, as well as the broader Organization, and recent developments in the region.

The Director-General met with Mr. Ronald K. Noble, Secretary-General, INTERPOL to discuss areas of mutual cooperation and issues related to international security.
The Director-General met with Mr. Božidar Deliæ, Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia.
The Director-General attended a reception on the occasion of the National Day of Egypt.

The Director-General opened a flag raising ceremony for the Republic of South Sudan, the world’s newest nation and the 193rd Member State of the United Nations.
The Director-General met with Ms. Valerie Amos, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator.
The Director-General met Mr. Christian Strohal, Permanent Representative of Austria to discuss the contributions of Austria to the work of the United Nations, including the Human Rights Council, and continued cooperation.
The Director-General met with Mr. Nickson Deng Peter, a representative of the Government of South Sudan to congratulate him on the country’s independence and express the commitment of the United Nations to work together with the Government to realize its goals as a new nation.

The Director-General presided over the closing ceremony of the Geneva Graduate Study Programme.
The Director-General met with Mr. Gopinathan Achamkulangare, Permanent Representative of the Republic of India to discuss issues related to the security of permanent missions in Geneva.
The Director-General hosted a function to the group of Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva to continue highlighting UNOG’s role in multilateral diplomacy and facilitating the work of the diplomatic community in Geneva.
