The Director-General attended a reception hosted by Ms. Sheikha Alya bint Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, Permanent Representative of Qatar, on the occasion of the country’s National Day and shared his congratulations on this occasion.

The Director-General participated by videoconference in a meeting of the Senior Management Group (SMG), chaired by the Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon.

The Director-General participated in a meeting of the Management Committee, chaired by the Deputy Secretary-General.

The Director-General attended a reception hosted by Ms. Sujata Mehta, Permanent Representative of India to the Conference on Disarmament in honour of Mr. Gopinathan Achamkulangare, Permanent Representative of India.

The Director-General offered his condolences at the Permanent Mission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), following the death of the country’s leader, Mr. Kim Jong Il.

The Director-General expressed his sympathy to the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, following the death of Mr. Václav Havel, former President of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic.

The Director-General, in his role as Designated Official for Security for Switzerland, chaired a townhall meeting for all UNOG security and safety staff.

The Director-General hosted an end-of-year reception for the diplomatic community and other stakeholders of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
