“Our work for peace must begin within the private world of each one of us”
UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld,
22 December 1953, (UN Press Release SG/360)

This photo exhibit celebrates the work accomplished every day by the 1,550 staff members of the United Nations Office at Geneva. It is through this work - often silent, often unnoticed – that the Palais des Nations is able to serve its essential purpose as a multilateral hub where member states, civil society, sister UN entities, and other actors come together to tackle the global challenges of today.

UNOG staff also provide essential services to other parts of the United Nations family so that they might pursue their life-saving mandates. Whether it be security officers working in the field, interpreters and translators supporting conferences or human rights missions, or administrators providing services to over 40 United Nations entities in Geneva and beyond, their individual actions are indispensable to the realization of the Organization’s objectives .

Through these photos we see how each staff member, in his or her own way, contributes to UNOG’s collective work while embodying the values of “efficiency, competence and integrity” set out in Article 101 of the Charter.

“I am proud of the work accomplished by UNOG staff on a daily basis in service to the United Nations, and I am grateful to my colleagues."
