The Meeting of the States Parties (Geneva, 24 - 25 November 2005) decided on mandates for the GGE to continue its work in 2006 on the following issues: Explosive Remnants of War, Mines Other Than Anti-Personnel Mines, possible options to promote Compliance with the Convention and its annexed Protocols, preparations for the Third Review Conference, the possibility to establish a sponsorship programme under the Convention and on the modality of such a sponsorship programme, and to achieve the goal of universality of the Convention and its annexed Protocols.

The States Parties decided to convene the Third Review Conference in Geneva from 7 to 17 November 2006 in conjunction with the Eighth Annual Conference of the States Parties to Amended Protocol II.

The Meeting also decided that all necessary preparations for the Third Review Conference be undertaken within the framework of the existing GGE, which was undertaken in three sessions at Geneva during 2006, as follows: 6 – 10 March 2006; 19 – 23 June 2006; and 28 August – 6 September 2006.
