The Third Review Conference of the High Contracting Parties to the Convention was held from 7 to 17 November 2006, preceded by the Eighth Annual Conference of the States Parties to Amended Protocol II, at the Palais des Nations, United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). A special plenary meeting of the Conference to mark the entry into force of CCW Protocol V on Explosive Remnants of War took place on Monday,13 November 2006.

Office Holders of the Third Review Conference
Pursuant to Rule 6 of the Draft Rules of Procedure of the Third Review Conference, as contained in document CCW/CONF.III/3, dated 25 August 2006, "
[t]he Conference shall elect from among the States parties participating in the Conference a President, ten Vice-Presidents as well as the Chairperson and a Vice-Chairperson for each of the Main Committees, the Drafting Committee and the Credentials Committee." Furthermore, Rule 4 (1) stipulates that "
There shall be a Credentials Committee of five members elected by the Conference on the proposal of the President. "
President - The 2005 Meeting of the States parties to the CCW has nominated Ambassador François Rivasseau of France as President-designate of the Third Review Conference. At its first plenary meeting, on 7 November 2006, the Conference confirmed by acclamation this nomination.
Vice-Presidents - Pursuant to Rule 6 of the Draft Rules of Procedure and in accordance with the established practice, ten Vice-Presidents have been elected unanimously by the Conference at its first plenary meeting, on 7 November 2006, following a nomination by the regional groups and China, as follows: Bulgaria, China, Cuba, Czech Republic, Germany, Japan, Morocco, Philippines, Poland and Switzerland.
