Director-General Participates in Panel Discussion on “The Human Cost of Military Spending”
17 April 2012
The Director-General participated in a panel discussion on “The Human Cost of Military Spending”, organized by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research, the Geneva Branch of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs and the International Peace Bureau, on the occasion of the Global Day of Action on Military Spending. He noted that the only way towards peaceful co-existence and sustainable development was through addressing security risks with a broad perspective and cooperative approaches. He further stressed that without addressing both disarmament and development challenges, many of our underlying security challenges would similarly not be addressed.
