Director-General Attends Opening Session of the 3rd International Expert Meeting on the Follow-up of Implementation of Human Rights Council Resolution 16/18

The Director-General attended the opening session of the 3rd international expert meeting on the follow-up and implementation of Human Rights Council Resolution 16/18 as part of the Istanbul Process, hosted by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. He noted that Resolution 16/18 represented an achievement for the Human Rights Council, with the commitment to address religious intolerance by promoting the related rights to freedom of expression, freedom of religion and non-discrimination. He called for responsible political leadership, strengthening of global mechanisms for dialogue and for the international community to confront conditions where intolerance can thrive in order to consolidate the commitment reflected in the Resolution.
