The Director-General opened a seminar on “Military and development spending in an era of austerity” organized by the International Peace Bureau on the Global Day of Action on Military Spending. He highlighted this unique opportunity to appeal to Governments across the globe to review military spending and emphasized that there is much work to do, to raise awareness, to find appropriate ways of meeting legitimate security needs and to fund properly our sustainable development challenge.
