Director-General Commemorates International Day of UN Peacekeepers

The Director-General commemorated the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers at a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the United Nations Memorial in Ariana Park. He paid tribute to the “dedication and courage of our peacekeeping colleagues – the more than 111,000 men and women serving around the globe and those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace”. As part of the commemoration, the Director-General also opened a panel discussion on “Adapting to New Challenges”, the theme of this year’s Day, and made a statement in which he highlighted the importance of strengthened partnerships and a shared agenda between the United Nations and other organizations, to ensure that peacekeeping will continue to adapt to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.
