Director-General Welcomes United Nations Secretary-General to Switzerland; Meets with President of Swiss Confederation

The Director-General welcomed United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon to Bern, Switzerland, and accompanied him on a visit of the Swiss Parliament, which included meetings with Mrs. Micheline Calmy-Rey, President of the Swiss Confederation and the two Presidents of the Swiss Parliament, Mr. Jean-René Germanier, President of the National Council (Lower Chamber), and Mr. Hansheiri Inderkum, President of the Council of States (Upper Chamber). The Director-General also accompanied the Secretary-General to a meeting with Mr. Harry Jenkins, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia. In addition, a meeting with Mr. Tibor Tóth, Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) took place, followed by participation in the Inaugural Ceremony of the 125th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
