The Director-General met with Mr. Mohamed Nasheed, President of the Republic of Maldives. Among issues discussed were the contributions of the Maldives to the work of the United Nations in the areas of climate change, disaster risk reduction and economic and social development. The Director-General commended the Maldives for its progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals and for its involvement in the Human Rights Council’s panel discussion on peaceful protests.
