The Information Technology Section serves the computing needs of over 1,000 regular employees within UNOG’s Division of Conference Management, while also supplying visiting international delegates and other conference participants with vital computer technology.
Some 8,500 meetings are held in the Palais des Nations in Geneva each year, attracting around 28,000 delegates from across the globe. The Information Technology Section plays an important role in providing IT tools for communication needs to diplomats and participants.
The Section provides vital backup to its regular users either full time or part-time by way of IT support through its helpdesk. In addition to providing support, the IT team is continually updating all hardware and software as requested.
Throughout the year several missions are held outside the Palais des Nations. With this in mind the Information Technology Section has on hand the resources and professional technicians available to provide support for vital communication logistics between the host country and the Palais des Nations.
Information Technology is divided into two support teams; one deployed solely in support of all general users and visiting delegates, while the other offers specialized software development. In addition to this, the Section has introduced a new centralized Helpdesk that solves many common problems. Ongoing advancements in the Internet and mobile communications necessitate constant review of the current environment.
