NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF TAJIKISTAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Jamshed Khamidov, the new Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Khamidov had been serving at the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2011, first as Head of Division and then as Deputy Head of the Department. He also worked at that Department from 2006 to 2008. He served as Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Tajikistan to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 2008 to 2011.

Mr. Khamidov started his career as an interpreter at the Ministry of Interior of Tajikistan in 1992, and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995. His foreign postings include serving as First Secretary of Tajikistan in Belgium and France from 2001 to 2006, where he participated in the work of the missions of Tajikistan to the European Union, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the United Nations Educational, Social and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. From 1996 to 1998, he was an Attaché at the Embassy of Tajikistan in Vienna, participating in the work of the representations of Tajikistan to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the United Nations Office at Vienna. From 1998 to 2001, he served as First Secretary, Tajikistan National Commission for UNESCO.

Mr. Khamidov has a degree from the Oriental Department of the Tajik State University in the Urdu language (1985 to 1992). He also has a PhD in political sciences from the Tajik State University (2012). He was born on 20 August, 1968 and is married with four children.
