UNITED NATIONS AND THE LEAGUE OF ARAB STATES CONVENE GENERAL COOPERATION MEETING

Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 67/11 A and B of 19 November 2012, the twelth General Cooperation Meeting between the secretariats of the United Nations and the League of Arab States and their specialized bodies took place at the United Nations Office in Geneva from 17 to 19 June 2014. The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Ambassador Radouane Benkhadra, Legal Adviser to the League of Arab States Secretary-General, and Mr. Oscar Fernandez-Taranco, Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs.
High-level representatives from 36 relevant United Nations and League of Arab States funds, programmes and agencies participated in the Meeting. The participants reviewed all respects of cooperation in the political, economic, social, humanitarian and human rights areas. They welcomed the progress achieved in the implementation of joint projects and activities. New projects of cooperation with concrete time lines of implementation have been identified and approved by the Meeting.
The strengthening of the United Nations – League of Arab States partnership will contribute to international peace and stability as well as to the post-2015 development agenda while addressing common issues of concern to the two Organizations.
